I love the dramatic views we have here in Charleston, SC. We were up and out early one morning on our way to get some things done. We’re making a few small changes in our backyard so wanted to see what plants were out there – we weren’t sure what was available this time of year.
Out on walk the other morning 🙄 – I’m walking to my “fast walking” station on Spotify. I was zipping along until I stumbled (literally) upon this view. I thought I would let my heart catch up with my head after almost going *splat* so I stopped and did what any sane person would do – I took a photo….
Aren’t they beautiful? Spotted this olive tree while out and about a few weekends ago and thought it was pretty spectacular! You can’t just pluck an olive and eat it – I’ve read the taste is abhorrent at best, even if you love olives. They must be placed in a brine for a period of time. #nowyouknow But… they sure are beautiful!
Preserving the beauty of some of the older Charleston, SC neighborhoods is of paramount importance. Many neighborhoods have expressed interest in maintaining the character, flow, height/mass/scale of their area and hope for help avoiding demolition for the sake of “biggie-sizing”. We’re thankful the City of Charleston is working with us on a solution…
We have a neighborhood Barr Owl that gets around. He’s busy and always on watch. He demands presence – he isn’t the sweet little “hootie” that we rescued years ago and rushed to the Birds of Prey to save after we found him in our backyard leaning against the fence. This guy is a bit more territorial…
Almost all of us have witnessed the endless images of destruction from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Helene. Helene came onshore as a Category 4 hurricane near Cape Fear, FL on September 26, 2024 – a few short days ago. From there the devastation continued through Georgia, South Carolina and Western North Carolina… In Charleston, Helene passed as a tropical storm from quite a distance away, but the wind effects felt stronger and lasted longer than some hurricanes in recent memory.
It’s been a doozy of a week. Tropical Storm Debby definitely has overstayed her (un)welcome! The stress of these weather events (around the country, not just Charleston SC) takes their toll for sure. I’m writing this on Wednesday where it is still raining and the threat that Debby will make landfall somewhere near Charleston is a possibility.
What a fabulous view, right? I took this photo at Crosby’s Seafood near Folly Beach (SC) when we stopped to pick up some shrimp for the week. It’s not far from the house and the view is out of this world. And… if you’re hungry the food truck is delish!
The vast skyline is pretty, isn’t it? I love the dark of the landscape against the colors in the sky. Snapped this on the way home one evening (as a passenger in the car, not the driver) 😉 Magnificent, isn’t it? There is the round landmark hotel in the distance.
Well, it’s official, Spoleto kicked off on Friday and it’s in full swing right now! If you’re in the Charleston area this is something you do not want to miss… Theater. Music. Opera. Dance. Jazz. Art.
Click HERE for info on all the performances, shows, etc. The city is booming with people right now, it’s a festive time here in Charleston!
This is where the [HOT TIP]comes in…
Spoleto has plenty of free events, which is what makes this city so cool… but another “free” thing to do is to stop in the wonderful galleries in Charleston! We have an abundance and they are all amazing. Be sure to head on over to Historic Gallery Row, located on Broad Street, this is Charleston’s “Fine Art Destination”. Pop in Galerie on Broad! I hope to see you there!
View from Bowens Island Restaurant, Charleston, SC
Beauty as far as the eye can see… Bowens Island Restaurant… located in Charleston, South Carolina near Folly Beach (about 5 minutes away!) is one restaurant you need to check out next time you’re in Charleston. It’s, well… eclectic? The food is fresh and so tasty, I always get the fried shrimp, (my one splurge) and this is the place to get it!
They’re open from 5-10PM Tuesday – Saturday (CLOSED ON SUNDAY & MONDAY)… we usually get there early and there is a line, but just look at the view (above)… bring your camera, especially if you go near sunset… gorgeous!
Bowens Island Restaurant
This may not be a fancy restaurant, but LOOK AT THAT VIEW! I have gotten many gorgeous photos from this location! I have their updated menu set to post May 18 so check back then… but see the previous menu HERE, not much has changed!
Unexpected and unique I said yesterday… regarding Charleston, SC. It is. You can walk around and see beauty everywhere. I suspect that its not just Charleston. If you have the right mindset, you can see something beautiful everywhere you go. It’s worth taking the time each day to find that one unexpected thing of beauty… and be grateful. Camelia’s this time of year are so pretty…
Enjoy your Sunday and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow!
Fred and I had the best lunch the other day… we had worked hard (our study has been painted, woohoo Fred!) it was getting late and we were starving! We headed to Brixx Wood Fired Pizza, in Mount Pleasant, SC. Usually we split a pizza, they aren’t big, but just enough for us… except for that day… this turned into a lunch/dinner situation… we ordered our typical Margherita Pizza… it’s so fresh tasting with a light crust, very fresh (house made) mozzarella, fresh roma tomatoes and luscious basil… a tasty treat… but we saw that someone had ordered a pizza with some lots of “green” (it was a ways away), we asked what it was. It was the Wild Mushroom Pizza with fresh arugula. So we ordered one of those as well! (Oink! Oink!) Oh. My. Gosh. We were in Heaven… the arugula was so fresh a tender, the PERFECT addition to this pizza. The Margherita Pizza was delicious, as it always is! Their iced tea is pretty spectacular as well… always fresh, and if you’re an iced tea connoisseur like we are (unsweet please) this is the place to go!
