From the Photo Archives: Alligator at Palmetto Bluff

Palmetto Bluff 2007

Photograph from the archives…

This creature was just perched on his own little island minding his business when we walked past… I snapped a photo and kept moving.

It’s best to respect the distance between us, ha ha… This was taken in 2007 at Palmetto Bluff. Have you ever been? If you get a chance, it’s a beautiful place to visit – don’t miss it!

Another Charleston Photo…

Cool shadows - Charleston, SC

Love the shadows, don’t you? Charlie loves to walk downtown… different smells and different “friends” that he runs into along the way. It’s the time of year to head out early, humidity isn’t fit for man or beast, ha ha…

Bring a camera! Most of my photos are taken with my phone nowadays, I can grab it and run out the door and snap along the way. Fred and Charlie walk fast, so I snap, snap, snap then run, run, run to catch up. It’s a workout, but one worth it’s weight in gold!

Charleston Photo!

Charleston, SC

I love the wrought iron gates in Charleston, SC. Each is a masterpiece. The views beyond the gates are even more of a masterpiece. A peek at that white steeple against that oh-so-blue sky is just beautiful. The palm makes it tropical, the shadows on the old brick are stunning.

No matter where you look you find something absolutely beautiful. Not only downtown in the historic district, but everywhere! Keep your eyes open for it!

Sun and Shadows – Charleston Photo

Charleston Window Box

I’ve mentioned the beautiful window boxes throughout the city. Each one as gorgeous as the next. Some with unexpected plants that seem to flourish in their surroundings. Obviously planted by someone who knows what they’re doing!

Another fine example. What a treat to round a corner and find even more beautiful window boxes just waiting to have their photo taken!

Marine City Fish Company – Michigan!

Bell's Battered Fish & Chips

Bell’s Battered Fish & Chips – Marine City Fish Company, Marine City, MI

Last time I went to Michigan to visit family, we stopped at a favorite place for dinner. Marine City Fish Company. They have fresh seafood from the nearby lakes (wallet, perch, whitefish, salmon) and they have “Oceanside Seafood”. Normally I pick the local variety, but this flash fried, beer battered, Icelandic cod sure did sound good. The hand cut shoestring fries were amazing, and I’m not a big french fry eater… the homemade tartar sauce was impeccable. The carrots tasty, as was a good-size garden salad. Very good! Of course I had to get the photo shoot in prior to taking a bite, I’m just glad I remembered! Check out their menu! I love menus, ha ha!

This photo is from a previous visit, this is the Cedar Planked White Fish with homemade chips. Wow! Wow! Wow! This actually won a photo contest years ago (thank you Jericho)! It’s as beautiful as it was delicious!

St. Johns Marsh as Seen Through the Car Window…

St. John's Marsh

St. Johns Marsh as seen through the car window – Clay Township/Algonac, MI. Many times when I see a photo and grab for my phone there just isn’t time to get the window down as well. So… that weird reflection in the middle isn’t something in the marsh. Look at this sky. Those peeks of bright cobalt blue underneath the whites and grays of the clouds.

Simple beauty.

Flower

I love the simple things in life. A smile, a beautiful flower, dew on a leaf in early morning. As we go through life we all encounter difficult times, happy times and times that we just go through the motions from day to day. Make a point to stop and “smell the roses”, notice the little things to be grateful for, it will make you smile, and when you smile, others will too!

Uncle Henry’s and the Sunflower – Monhegan, ME

Monhegan Sunflower

I think I took a photo of this scene each time I walked by it. Sometimes foggy, in sun, in shade, early, late, wind blowing, wind still… this scene mesmerizes me. Uncle Henry’s in the background, a very cool cottage near the wharf. The two adirondack chairs are perfectly placed to see everything that is going on. I love this place!

Monhegan Island, Maine at Sunset

Monhegan, Maine

This photo was taken early fall last year. Almost every night there was a beautiful sunset. These breathtaking scenes just happened to be at the time of our dinner reservation each night. Thankfully Fred is understanding while I run out and snap “a few” photos. I think we need to make a reservation after sunset, because when there is a sunset like this it is so awe inspiring you can’t help but to be captivated by it and to feel so utterly blessed to be in such a magnificent place, especially when you can share your love of this place with those you love.
