After the loss of our dog of nearly fifteen years (the super cool CHARLIE dog) – we called Chewy.com to cancel his upcoming auto ship orders. It wasn’t easy to choke out the words, but they were so kind…

Isn’t this house a beauty? I love the gorgeous front porch across the front and the to die for screened porches on the sides. How heavenly! When you want to converse with passers by, you can situate yourself on the front porch, when you want to tuck away and read a good book and can hunker down on the screened porch, free of bugs – or hey, if you just want to take a nap while listening to the birds chirp!
This photo was taken a few years ago – but it brings solace. Charlie was bigger than life (and he thought he was as big as the biggest dog he would ever run across). He left an indelible impression in our lives. We are so thankful for all the laughs, the smiles and the wonderful memories. We are blessed. #withoutadoubt
Charlie, who has lived with us for almost 15 years has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. His personality was larger than life and he will be missed forever. I had to write a post on a blog I started when we first brought Charlie home. He wouldn’t rest unless he was right next to me. He would hop up in a chair, then I would sit and with his back to the chair (sitting up) he would press his feet into my back. There we would sit while he napped. He is the reason I started a blog (Life with Charlie) all those years ago. That blog morphed into artfoodhome.com – I still cherish his beasty ways – he was the best dog ever!
When walking, I’m a firm believer of keeping an eye toward the sky. I see the most beautiful things that way. On a casual walk at dusk – I stopped and looked up into the beautiful oak trees that we have in this area.
Our sweet Jack Russell who was so full of life has moved on to greener pastures so to speak. He is in a better place now. Charlie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, April 17. As those of you with animals know, the pain is immeasurable…
Pizza, it’s a quick dinner to throw together, especially when you have the right ingredients on hand. Pair this with a fabulous salad and you will have a memorable evening! The crust is the secret…
Well, these five subjects look perfectly content being outdoors after swimming? Bathing? An interesting painting that could be interpreted in a variety of ways, but nonetheless tells a story. A story that you can go a long way with. Question for you – do you recognize the artist? Who might it be? If you know comment on this post or on social media (or just Contact Me via contact form/email).
Well! If you’re reading this you made it to the weekend. Take time to enjoy it! We bought some beautiful flowers the other day and oh, what joy they bring! A fresh cut each day and they keep on keeping on! Happy weekend – what are your plans?
Fred and I met 33 years ago today. Thirty. Three. Years. Ago. I remember it like yesterday. It seems so long ago, but in another way I can remember it so clearly. Like many of you, we have a cool story. But to make a long story short…
Do you make sourdough bread? If so, you’re familiar with the term ‘discard’ – the amount that you take out when you feed your start. You hate to throw away the start, but you really only want so many pancakes, etc. Well, let me solve the dilemma of what to do with your extra start (discard) – because once you have these cheese crackers there is NO GOING BACK. So read at your own risk!
Breathtaking. If I had to use a single word to describe this painting – it is breathtaking, inspiring. You can feel the woman’s exhaustion. Yet her love and carry for her children, despite all odds is still very apparent. The elements in this painting keep your eye moving and keep you right there, stuck in their story. Amazing, yes – but can you guess the artist on this one? Answer is below…
This used to be a Christmas cactus – actually, I think it was more of a Thanksgiving cactus – but this year (I put it in a new spot) it’s an Easter cactus. Just try to keep up! It’s such a vibrant color and the shadows are exquisite – with the far reaching limbs…
The Edenton House Plan by J. Wright Home Design for Southern Living
I love the lines of this house. It’s welcoming, it’s fresh and modern yet it would be difficult to tell if this is an immaculately kept older home or a new build. Each element compliments the other so nicely. The inside was designed so thoughtfully. Great plan (and fabulous architectural illustration!)
How happy is this? After (finally) purchasing a Scrub Daddy that i’ve heard so much about, but wasn’t going to give in to the cuteness – I had to try it out. I mean, don’t say you don’t like something if you’ve never tried it, right? I bought – I tried – I am a convert!
