These Views Are Never Taken For Granted

Out on walk the other morning 🙄 – I’m walking to my “fast walking” station on Spotify. I was zipping along until I stumbled (literally) upon this view. I thought I would let my heart catch up with my head after almost going *splat* so I stopped and did what any sane person would do – I took a photo….

My Husband, Top 10 U.S. National Champion 1994!

Thirty years ago (!!) this week, my husband was awarded a top ten US National Champion ribbon and plaque. He was one of the only riders who served as their own trainer. Of course, he didn’t do it alone, SGF Cimarron worked impeccably as he followed the given commands beautifully. This is one of the official photographs (taken by a real photographer – I have tried to find him to add a link but am unsure of the spelling as I have tried every possible configuration I can think of).

Preservation IS Progress in Charleston

Preserving the beauty of some of the older Charleston, SC neighborhoods is of paramount importance. Many neighborhoods have expressed interest in maintaining the character, flow, height/mass/scale of their area and hope for help avoiding demolition for the sake of “biggie-sizing”. We’re thankful the City of Charleston is working with us on a solution…

Gift Ideas from Buxton Books – Charleston, SC!

Who loves a bookstore? I do. I grew up reading and LOVING books. Once I really started reading, my parents would always be sure I had a book. I loved mysteries like the Nancy Drew series. My first “real book” was my mom’s Nancy Drew book that she read as a kid. Pretty cool. I was hooked. Sucked in and transformed into a different city/state/country all the while picturing it as I read. #nothingbetter

My Favorite No Sweat/Insulated Tumbler and what to drink during these hot summer days!

Most of us need to drink more water. Quite a bit more water. Not Coke, tea or coffee, but water. I have to say, I love my coffee, so sometimes go lacking on the actual drinking water part of my day. But I found a way to stay hydrated, that keeps me drinking because I want to – and because it tastes so good… and it couldn’t be easier!

A favorite scent, sunlight and a blooming Christmas cactus in April…

I was walking through the house the other day and the sun was hitting my Christmas cactus (which is blooming, yet again, in April!) – and it highlighted one of our favorite scents. The scent of this particular diffuser is clean, refreshing and fragrant. I’m sensitive to strong scents (including the jasmine outside which is so strong right now), but this is nice. Note, I don’t put all the reeds in the container – then any scent is too much for me. It’s absolutely lovely!

{Recipe} J.L. Hudson’s Spinach Salad – My Absolute FAVORITE!

I grew up shopping at J.L. Hudson’s – my very favorite store in the world. I loved everything about it, especially their restaurant, Lakeshore Grill. Almost thirty years after I moved to South Carolina, when I would stop in the restaurant, so many of the waitress were there when I was in HIGH SCHOOL. It’s so wonderful to walk in and see people that you remember as a kid! This salad was my very favorite. It’s beyond simple, but the taste will have you coming back for more (and more and more!) – there are so many reasons to up your green intake – and this salad makes that easy to accomplish!

Favorite Things: Jeni’s Ice Cream!

The first two flavors of Jeni’s Ice Cream that we’ve tried. #wow

I have seen Jeni’s Ice Cream at grocery stores, and remember driving by a Jeni’s in Charleston, SC (always with a long line of customers), but I never tried it. After talking with a neighbor (ALMD, you are responsible for this, ha ha) – and after recuperating after a cold, where nothing seems to taste good – Jeni’s sounded fabulous!

Furniture moving can make your space brand new!

This is a snippet of the (original) living room that was previously the dining room… last week we moved the rooms around again – changed the furniture – and it’s like new! This is now the living room again. It’s so refreshing to walk into a space that has been completely transformed. This shot mainly showcases the view of the gorgeous trees and oh! The shadow on the wall from the sunlight on the sheepskin – Love it! Nothing like shopping your own home to find treasures and furniture, paintings etc. to change your views!

Spring is springing up in Charleston!

Abide-A-While – Mount Pleasant, SC

Well, it seems as if spring is about to spring in Charleston, SC! One of our azaleas is blooming, camellias are always in bloom this time of year, and the garden stores are full of stunning and colorful plants. I know our garden centers get CrAzY around here, like we all need to get some pretty things planted after our long, hard winter (hehe). It IS always exciting to do just that! The anticipation of what you’ll find and how it will transform a space is always so much fun!

Good chocolate when baking makes a difference!

Guittard Unsweetened Chocolate Baking Bar ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sometimes the smallest changes can change the results of a recipe, especially when baking. Always try to use the highest quality ingredients for recipes that matter (i.e. in a brownie recipe, where chocolate is the main flavor). I almost didn’t purchase this because “the other baking bars” that I’ve used since I was a kid have worked just fine. Until…

Do you know what these are called?

The votive candles have these twinkling with light ✨

Aren’t these the coolest? One of these was given to me years ago and I love it. I place a small tea light (with a base so there is no cleanup) and light it. When friends and family members need special prayers I light it. Reminds me of lighting a candle at church. We met recently with an antique dealer, she told us what these are called, do you know?
