Many years ago we made the move to an older subdivision in Charleston. We live in one of the first neighborhoods developed (outside of the peninsula) – developed around 1926 – Our home was built in 1931. Due to the depression I’ve read that the neighborhood was started but there was a lull due to the depression. It was not built out until after World War II.

Today is a big day for several reasons – but it’s also a day to be grateful/blessed for growing up in a loving environment. I don’t take that for granted, I am thankful every single day. This is my family on our sailboat many (many, many) years ago. I vividly remember the curtains my mom made for the boat, they were a very cool purple/gold/off white stripe. Drop dead gorgeous, right? Mingo Point (located on Kiawah Island, SC) is a popular event venue. Our nephew and his fiancé were married here back in June. It was a beautiful wedding. Over the top beautiful. Every moment there was something stunning, the sky, the clouds (and of course, the bride, groom and all in attendance!) – When I saw these clouds roll in around 9PM I had to get some photos!

I think this could be the most fabulous pool house (or guest house, office, studio, the list goes on) in our backyard. What fun it would be to have an outbuilding with so many uses? A separate space for your guests to stay, yet be close at the same time. I think it could be so fun. I LOVE the screened porch, it would be facing our pool and screened in, so on nice evenings you could sit outside and spend the evening!

It was another steamy day in Charleston – but our late afternoon (evening) walk was still quite pretty. You can almost see the humidity in the air. This is an older street lined with large live oak trees and they’re stunning ALWAYS, but the bright pop of the crape myrtle blooms against the backdrop of oak trees certainly was beautiful! I love the light coming through the leaves. #wow I am oh so thankful for the way yesterday ended…

These grand oak trees are everywhere in Charleston, South Carolina. They’re stunning, magnificent and oh, so striking! I’ve written about them many times. They have the Resurrection fern that grows on many of them. Look at the trunk above and see the crunchy brown looking fern attached to the tree, that’s a resurrection fern. If it rains it is stunning and bright green. Once the rain is gone and the tree gets dry it turns brown and crunchy again.

Well, tomorrow is the day! The first day of summer, June 20, 2021. Woohoo! A time of year so many of you are looking forward to. Out come the beach and pool supplies, quicker and lighter food to eat – ironically, even with the heat, more time spent outdoors.
