Celebrating a Wonderful Man!

A past happy birthday cake!

Well! We can definitely add a few more candles to the cake since this photo was taken. We were in Michigan, and my dad made a cake for Fred’s birthday (with MANY layers). My dad disappeared into the kitchen and when I popped in looking for him he was in the midst of baking up a storm. It was getting late…

Bright Window Box on a Gray Day…

Bright Window Box on a Gray Day… #savethebees

We were out and about a few weeks ago and I ran across this beautiful window box (complete with bee in flight). It was so stunning against an exceptionally gray day. No complaints, I do love a gray day, have no problem with them at all! The brilliance of the pink against the gray was gorgeous. Now, to come up with what to plant (Zone 9) in the shade for our own window box.

Cooking Light Magazine…

Happily Subscribed Once Again… at least for a while.

Cooking Light magazine – one of my all time favorites. I was an avid reader (from the early 90’s until they decided to merge some of their info into Eating Well magazine and sell Cooking Light as a magazine that you can buy in store only (no subscriptions). I never bought one of the special interest publications, but once the subscriptions started back, woohoo, I was too excited.

Light and Shadows: When One Door Closes…

Kitchen Swing Door from 1931

I love living in a house built in the 1930’s. The charm and character can’t be beat. We found this old swing door in the attic of the garage many years ago, we cleaned it up, painted it and hung it. Now, when we need privacy in the kitchen (Fred’s WFH office is on the other side of that door. Since he’s on conference call after conference call, I close the door if I’m going to be in the kitchen, or if the dog acts up with UPS, FedEx, Amazon, USPS, any human, animal, etc. that moves past our house). I cannot imagine having a kitchen without it…

We Need An Island!

Seabrook Island – South Carolina – 2020

We are island people. We don’t live on an island, but we love them. We are in need of a getaway, it’s been a long, long, long time… It started with Mackinac Island (MI), and Harsen’s Island (MI), then morphed to Monhegan Island (ME) and Seabrook and Kiawah Islands (SC) – the pull of tranquility can be overwhelming at times. #thisisoneofthosetimes I took this photo last year on a day trip to Seabrook. We had the best time ever!

Heaven on Earth…

Monhegan Island (Maine) Sunset

As I’ve been saying for the past year and a half (at least)… This is an older photo. We’ve been dreaming of visiting this place we love, but this year just isn’t the year. Look at the magic! This was taken from the Island Inn on Monhegan facing Manana Island. Light on the island is so different. I have seen beautiful sunsets in my life, but nothing like I’ve seen on Monhegan!

Oh! How I wish we were here…

Fred | Monhegan, Maine

Everyone likes to be in their “happy place” – this is ours. Clearly, you can see the joy that we finally made it to the island (old photo, we will not make it there in 2021) – this is one magical place that has a strong magnetic pull for so many of us. Monhegan is a special place in so many ways, but mainly it’s the friendships we’ve made throughout the years.

A Glimmer of Hope on Union Street!

Does a story instantly come to your mind? I can look at just about anything and come up with a story. It may not be the best story you’ve ever heard but I’ve never come up blank (yet). I do think the caffeine amount has to be just right, that may be the real key! I was writing a blip using the word prompt: Glimmer. When out spewed the start of a story. I quickly wrote two versions and ended up using the second version. This is my introduction into fiction, I have even more respect for real authors after trying a blip! (haha) – I may add to this story in the future… I admire real authors, planning is key, and there is no planning involved in this, just writing…

Dad’s Roses – A Favorite!

Dad’s Roses

My Dad grows the most amazing flowers, his roses are no exception. My parents live in Michigan, a much different climate than South Carolina. Dad’s STUNNING roses are peppered around the perimeter of the yard. I end up leaving with 1,000 photos of river, marsh, flowers and a few of people, sigh. Next time, I’m getting good photos of EVERYONE! I try each time, but no one pays attention, ha ha… #soon
