Lavender Dahlia by Karen Kluglein 10 x 8″ Watercolor
Karen Kluglein. Beautiful botanical paintings – looking through all of her paintings makes me want to run out and buy some flowers (or better yet, plant some of my own)! Wonderful paintings of flowers, orchids, trees, edibles and bulbs. I found the dahlia painting featured on the “Specials” page. I have no doubt that Karen can paint anything, what talent! …and her story – I love it, very interesting! Don’t miss it! Continue reading “Featured Artist: Karen Kluglein!”→
My adaptation of Cooking Light’s Orange-Sauced Chicken
I love running across a tasty recipe, especially one that is quick to make and healthy as well. This one appealed to me because it’s something different to do with chicken. A different taste – chicken can get tedious if you let it. Don’t!
Normally I prefer to post an image of the finished product and then the recipe, but Facebook usually chooses image #2 to post, so… that would explain the backwards way I post recipes…
Grace DeVito. Her still life paintings… Wow! She captures them so beautifully (a beautiful lobster? yes!) – The lobster is stunning, but the way she placed the corn which compliments it so beautifully makes it artful. The red potatoes… wow! Gorgeous paintings! Continue reading “Featured Artist: Grace DeVito!”→
Shadows intrigue me. They are often just as cool as the subject itself. We were headed out the door and this caught my eye… I had to stop and take a quick photo. The elegance of this gas lantern displaying it’s shadow on the brick was so cool. It makes the lantern look huge (it’s not). Continue reading “Gas Lantern Shadow”→
Our geraniums are bursting with color and have been for some time now. Even our geranium from last year that looked a little bleak after the winter (despite being put in the garage on the nights that we had that dipped below freezing) – but they are happy and blooming now.
I love this little scene. The pool, the wicker chair and the geranium. Our happy place!

Fleeting Pinks by Jeremy Duncan | Gouache on Paper | 4″ x 4″

I need to plant some petunias here in Charleston. Petunias hold a place near and dear to my heart – One of my grandma’s used to have a rock garden in her backyard – we got to help plant it each Spring, and it was always so much fun (maybe because ice cream or M&M’s were always a part of it?) Light on Monhegan by Erik Koeppel 10×16 Oil | via Rehs.com
Erik Koeppel. His paintings are so well executed, they are reminiscent of paintings from long ago. Erik captures the landscape and even the atmosphere! This Monhegan painting is a beauty. If you aren’t familiar this painting is Monhegan Island in the foreground and Manana Island in the distance. In the fall the sun sets behind Manana, and you get this fabulous lit up sky that will just make your jaw drop. Continue reading “Featured Artist: Erik Koeppel!”→
I love this time of year. Temps are nice, nothing too crazy going on (like a hurricane) – everything is blooming outside, and inside as well!
This violet was given to us 6/18/2007 when our Jack Russell, “Reginald” passed away. A neighbor gave it to us (thank you Cora!) – and it has gotten bigger each and every year. This violet blooms like crazy, it’s the happiest ever. It’s been repotted several times. Continue reading “Portrait of a Blooming Violet!”→
The azaleas are blooming in Charleston and they are plentiful, especially on our street. We live in an older neighborhood and just about every house has azaleas that were planted years ago and some are quite big, they are blooming and look so happy right now.
I thought I would take a moment to showcase the white azaleas that you don’t see quite as often as the bright pink (seen in photo above). We have a few white azaleas and the rest are the bright pink.
There is a rule with azaleas. No trimming until after they bloom. Break that rule and you get no blooms. I know… every few years they get leggy and we cut them back, and last year it wasn’t at the optimal time. This year we will cut them all back after the blooming is over and we should be good for next year. I love when the entire street blooms at the same time (that doesn’t always happen). It’s stunning!
Happy Saturday!

Early Morning, Loon Lake, Murphy’s Point by Barb Sohn 20 x 40
Barb Sohn. An amazing artist from Canada. Her paintings of islands grabbed my attention on Instagram – there is nothing like a vacation to an island (of any kind) – and she captures them so perfectly! I love the bright colors in her paintings! Don’t you feel like you are getting ready to go out on the water in a boat when you look at this painting… Nice!
This is the Vannet house plan by Dvele – This plan is 1,139 square feet with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. A sharp, modern plan.
The Vannet exterior is so visually appealing with its modern lines and mix of exterior finishes. Oh! Look at that wonderful outdoor space! How perfect is that?
Dvele. Remember that name, because you will be seeing it more and more. Modern prefab homes (in the best possible way) and offer the ultimate in luxury. These homes can do as much (dim your lights, lock your doors, draw the blinds) or as little as you like. These are the homes of the future and it’s pretty exciting. Modular building is smart because it’s being built in a controlled environment.
I can’t tell you how much time I’ve spent on their website, it’s fabulous and FULL of information! Also be sure to check out their blog!
Hester Berry. An artist from the UK with a wonderful and loose painting style. I love her strokes of paint, each deliberate and geometrical in a way. Love the light in the clouds and on the beach. She has a variety of subjects – I think you will love them all! Continue reading “Featured Artist: Hester Berry!”→
