Everyone likes to be in their “happy place” – this is ours. Clearly, you can see the joy that we finally made it to the island (old photo, we will not make it there in 2021) – this is one magical place that has a strong magnetic pull for so many of us. Monhegan is a special place in so many ways, but mainly it’s the friendships we’ve made throughout the years.

Maine is a drop dead gorgeous place to visit. It’s also like a double edged sword. You go, you enjoy, you are overtaken by the beauty, the clean air, the quiet, and then… you don’t want to go home. There are some of you out there who have had this exact reaction. I’ve loved pretty much everywhere I’ve gone to visit. But I have never felt the pull that I felt like I did when I was in Maine.

Today is a big day for several reasons – but it’s also a day to be grateful/blessed for growing up in a loving environment. I don’t take that for granted, I am thankful every single day. This is my family on our sailboat many (many, many) years ago. I vividly remember the curtains my mom made for the boat, they were a very cool purple/gold/off white stripe. This is a heavenly scene from years ago… 2009 to be exact. My parents stayed with us at a cool cottage in Port Clyde before we headed over to Monhegan for a few days. What a great trip. This was out on a walk on Horse Point Road in Port Clyde. The views are stunning everywhere you look. When you mix the beauty of the sky and the cool light with the dark outline of the working boats it turns into one of my favorites!

Maine. It’s our happy place. Fred and I started visiting Monhegan Island back in 2006. We haven’t been in several years but we’re looking to getting back there at some point. I remember this photo. I didn’t sleep and was so exhausted yet so happy to be on our way to the island. We were waiting for Monhegan Boatline’s next trip to the island. We didn’t have any idea what to expect (other than reading everything I could get my hands on)…

Since we haven’t been anywhere it what feels like forever, I felt like taking a little trip to Monhegan Island today, so I perused my photos and found this image from 2012. Taken at Lobster Cove, a quick and easy hike with a stunning view. There is just so much to love about Monhegan. We can’t wait to get back. Like many of you, we have been in place for over a year now, so we really want to go see family and maybe Monhegan next year? Who knows! 🤞

We all look forward to the annual art show at the Island Inn, Monhegan, Maine. The owners of the Lupine Gallery on Monhegan transform the dining room of the inn into a stunning art mecca each year. It is so exciting to walk into the dining room and see the art displayed so masterfully. Absolutely gorgeous paintings this year by artist Caleb Stone. It’s also a treat to be eating in the dining room at the Inn with a breathtaking view both inside and out!

It departed Charleston and went to George Town (Grand Cayman), Cozumel (Mexico) and Key West (Florida). I appear a bit apprehensive in this photo. This was before the ship left port. Fred and I were hiking the trails on Monhegan several years ago. The island is one of the most beautiful places ever, with wondrous trails leading to cliffs and ocean. Ahh, the sites, the sounds (or lack thereof), and the freshest air ever!
