What a stunning sky! It looks like some of the October sunsets that are so brilliant and just take your breath away! I love the darkness of the horizon and the wonderful warm fluffy clouds. How does he do it? Beautiful painting by Ober-Rae Starr Livingstone!

Working Method: I work with acrylics. The intensity of color is due to working with anywhere from 6 to 20 layers of color on most parts of the canvas .Sometimes I start with a photograph, sometimes from plein air sketches and sometimes with just an idea. The painting becomes more abstract as it evolves. My main concern is the balance of shapes and colors – their relationships to one another and the feelings that they evoke within the viewer. It is the feeling, the flow of Energy that I really love about the painting process– the intensity and joy that comes when the painting seems to take on a life of its own. It is at this point in the work that changes are made through the heart and not the mind, and the artist feels that he/she is a part of higher creative processes.

Noah’s Cottage (C0613) by Allison Ramsey Architect

I love cottage plans, and this is no exception! This is Noah’s Cottage (C0613) by Allison Ramsey Architect. This plan is 1,806 square feet (not including loft) with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The exterior is as wonderful as the interior. Be sure to click on the link below to see actual images.

This plan has the Master suite located at the front of the house, which is very private. Behind the Master Suite is the Kitchen and Living Room. The entry brings you into a Foyer, where you see through to the Dining Room and Screened Porch. That could be so beautiful! Two Bedrooms are situated on the opposite side of the house with a Bathroom and Laundry Room between them.

It’s nice to have a Foyer area, especially one that offers such a wonderful view. The kitchen has a side door, and there is also a door off the back Screen Porch. Nice ventilation when the weather allows opening of windows!

This is the upstairs loft (which is not counted in the square footage). When you look at the “real-life” photos, you see different ideas of how people utilize this space. I think I would make mine a reading loft :) Love the idea of a Kids Loft for young guests, that could be fun!

Featured Artist: Hank Buffington!

Jetty by Hank Buffinton

Jetty by Hank Buffington   8×10″   Acrylic

Hank Buffington. A great artist, and a fabulous one to be friends with on Facebook. This man should be a comedian, or at least write a book about his daily life, he is hilarious. I don’t think he always means to be, but he is. His paintings are wonderful. I love the abstractness, along with the wonderful painterly quality that they have. Those dark rocks, with the green, and the light ocean waves and then that fabulous sky. Very nice painting!

Hank paints all kinds of things, but these two grabbed me. Just look at this painting. Look at the wonderful sky reflections in the wet sand. The crashing waves, WOW. Nice one!

Read a bit about Hank, from his website:

I was born in Pennsylvania but did most of my growing up in a somewhat rural part of New Jersey close to the Delaware River. I didn’t appreciate the bucolic charm of the area when I was a kid and a lot of my drawings were fantasies to take me away from it to a more exciting life. Those drawings eventually took me to art school and after graduating I returned home to begin a career as a graphic designer and digital illustrator.

The past several years I’ve taken time off from being a professional artist to be a full-time dad to our FIVE kids. The forced break from the computer has given me the opportunity to resume painting after years of pushing a mouse. In the summer of 2009 I began painting plein air landscapes to broaden my abilities, loosen up, abandon minutia, and gain a better understanding of light and color through the forced discipline of painting outdoors in the constantly changing weather and light.

I live in Lancaster, PA but paint everywhere I go.

So hard to pick just a few… be sure to check out Hank’s blog – I love the Fourth of July Lightning Bugs… fabulous!

Check out a bistro & pub located inside Whole Foods Market – Mount Pleasant!

IMG_4135

The Ashley & Cooper Southern Bistro and Pub is the long name… it’s referred to as “The Grill”, which I like! Are you in the Mount Pleasant, SC area? Looking for something fresh and different to eat? Well, you can shop and eat, have a glass of wine or beer, relax… all at Whole Foods Market – Mount Pleasant!

Recently we were invited to taste the new menu, and what a menu it is! We tried (nice size portions!) of almost everything on the menu. Each was more splendid that the next! The biggest problem I can foresee is trying to decide what to order!

A few things that I wouldn’t think that I would like, I LOVED, like the Grilled Romaine & Kale Salad – WOW! Well, with the freshest of ingredients, I can say all the salads were wow! The BOWLS were all wonderful as well. We tried the Black Bean Burger, which was better than ever! The BBQ at Whole Foods is fabulous, and they have a hamburger called the DIVINE SWINE BURGER (ground beef, pulled pork, cheddar, bacon, collard slaw)… OHMYGOSH! There is so much food on that one burger it’s unbelievable! They served it more like a cheeseburger with a side of pork so we could taste it. Too hard to cut a big burger, piled high with toppings, into portions! Also tasted their homemade fries, very good…

Although sinful, the Pimento Macaroni and Cheese knocks it out of the park! AND IT IS SERVED AS A SIDE!! Take some to go, it’s a meal for the next day!

Macaroni and Cheese - Whole Foods Mount Pleasant, SC

The TOASTS were my favorite! They used grilled EVO Bread (local bakery), the Ricotta & Tomato Toast with Smoked Sea Salt WOW, WOW, WOW!

The Fresh Ground Almond Butter Toast drizzled with local honey, very nice, and a great choice if you’re looking for healthy!

The Avocado Toast with Lemon & Chili Flakes – heavenly!!

It’s a nice place to eat, and the people who work at Whole Foods… special. They truly care and it shows. Bravo Whole Foods!

Autumn Harvest with China by Brent Jensen    24 x 30″    Oil

Brent Jensen. Amazing artist. Love his work! I know I’ve said this before, but there were truly so many wonderful paintings to choose from it was difficult. I chose Autumn Harvest with China because it’s perfect for this time of year, the sunflowers are stunning, the background is wonderful and compliments everything perfectly. The highlights and shadows make this painting sing!

A happy mistake…

DSCN3731

Have you ever had your camera on the Manual setting by mistake? Sigh… at first I was disappointed and then I thought that the photos I took (my profile pic on FB being one) looked pretty cool, almost like they had an Instagram filter applied to them. Let’s just go with that, shall we? ;)

Misty Mae, Port Clyde, Maine.

View from the lighthouse on Monhegan Island…

IMG_4302

This is a view from the lighthouse on Monhegan, Maine.. A foggy day that was just spectacular. This proves you don’t always need the sun shining. Absolutely beautiful!

This is one of those times I didn’t have my camera, so this is with my phone, it did pretty well considering the distance. You get an idea of the magnitude of this island. The other island you see is Manana Island.

Workhorse – Port Clyde, Maine

DSCN3722

This boat looks like a real workhorse. Fishing can be dangerous and physically very difficult. When their boats are in the harbor they are beautiful. Not beautiful in a sparkly kind of way, more like natural beauty…

Raspberry Island!

DSCN3717

View of Raspberry Island from Port Clyde, Maine. I love the peacefulness of this area. It feels like heaven to me!

There is a wonderful painting of Raspberry Island by artist Jerry Weiss that we ran across in Charleston, SC one day! It was an art gallery (no longer in Charleston), and they had it on an easel near the door. We walked by and Fred spotted it right away.

Charlie!

DSCN4102

What do you do when you’re in the house for many days with wicked weather outside? Play with your camera settings of course! I tried to figure out how to use the manual setting on my camera, not sure that I did. Some photos turned out, some didn’t. I did find that I could change a setting to MACRO to photograph close up (like the shots for food, that I have been  using my phone for)! How exciting to figure out at least something.

Charlie was getting annoyed with being the subject of my photo ;) ha ha…

I write my posts ahead of time and schedule them to publish. As I write this we have had much rain (near 20″), flooding on nearby streets, streets closed in most directions and just a general mess. This morning we woke to wind (oh no!), hoping the trees will be OK, they are so drenched that they easily uproot during these conditions. I need a week to catch up! Power was flickering on and off, so we had the computer shut down. Back to normal next week!
