After II by Joseph A. Miller 12 3/4″ x 14 3/4″ Oil

Joseph A. Miller. The stories this man can tell with his paintings blows me away. Those of you who read this blog have heard me say time and time again how important it is to paint something other than the subject. (To me) a painting needs to have feeling. Think of it as a singer who can sing a song perfectly but without emotion vs. one with so much emotion that you get goosebumps. Most of us can relate to that scenario. I’ve always loved to write creatively, so I am looking for the many stories that can be told from one painting. This painting has emotion. So. Much. Emotion.

Do you see wild animals? {WordPress Post Prompt}

Magnificent trees + sunset in a historic neighborhood = WOW. My husband and I were walking the other night as the sun was setting and a large full moon was lighting up the sky. My phone refused to see the large brilliant moon – but when I turned around and saw the stunning sky behind me I just had to take a quick photo. I love the tree and the sky. This is a magical time of year.

Truoba Class 115 House Plan!

Truoba Class 115 House Plan!

I know I post a lot of coastal plans – probably because we live on the coast, but it’s fun to look at other plans. I happen to love so many different styles of homes, I could go on and on. A Mid-Century Modern type plan is always fun to me. This is a modern plan with a lot of windows (therefore a lot of light!) – it’s a dream.

Fabulous cookies – 4 Ingredients – No butter or flour!

Two versions. Regular version in front and two muffin tin versions in back (Nibble Board from The Lost Kitchen)

A friend of mine made these fabulous cookies. I tried them and couldn’t believe there was only four ingredients. No butter. No flour. Easy and so delicious. Make them and store them in your fridge. I have a feeling they won’t be there long! Did I mention four SIMPLE ingredients? Good ingredients = good food. It’s that simple.

Charleston, SC – What did you do this weekend?

What were you up to this weekend? It was a weird combination of warmish (but cool in the house), then a little humid – then turning crisp. #perfect I love crisp weather. I always look with wonder at the view that we pass by on our way to do the mundane tasks of everyday living. It’s not the destination, it’s the view along the way, right? But I did get some good cooking in…

Tis the Season – December already!

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

Looking for a good gift idea this year? It’s not easy finding the perfect gift. Sometimes you hit it just right (like the image above, we bought Charlie a new dog bed, he was thrilled, hopped in it and went right to sleep.) If you’re looking for a few gift ideas, take a peek at my list and let me know if you have any favorite gifts to give (or receive!) – It’s still hard to fathom that it’s already December!

The River Place Cottage Plan by Watermark Coastal Homes!

River Place Cottage Plan SL1959 by Watermark Coastal Homes for Southern Living

This is an iconic coastal house plan – with exquisite detail and an exceptional floor plan. The exterior looks like a home that was built long ago and maintained in the best possible way. Can you imagine how pretty this house must be in the evening with warm lamps on? I adore the screened porch on the side of the house with a stunning fireplace. #itswhereiwouldbe

2022: The Year of Abundant Asparagus!

Asparagus, so much asparagus!

Asparagus. As a kid I never liked asparagus. Maybe because they were mushy (canned)? I’ve never been a fan of cooked-to-death veggies. I love a crunch. So I’m good with them cooked as little as possible (unlike meat – right or wrong, I go in the opposite direction there – I like meat cooked)! Never in my life have I eaten as much asparagus as I did this year…

A fresh (and beautiful) lemon from our neighbor’s tree!

Living in Charleston just got a wee bit better. Lemons are in season and whoa are they beautiful! Our neighbor has a magnificent lemon tree just bursting with lemons. Have a recipe, need a lemon? Perfect! It’s like a nice pot of basil but even better! I don’t know what he does to make this tree so happy, but wow! This tree is beautiful, especially when the sun is hitting it. The lemons, whoa…

A Quick & Light Salad = Perfect Lunch!

This salad happened by mistake one day while I was baking – I had an orange that had been zested, so I needed to use it. I was also hungry, ha ha… So, I was thinking how to incorporate the orange into my lunch. This was perfect. Fresh, delicate, with a bit of crunch – the vinaigrette was OUTSTANDING!

Penny’s Flowers in July by Lizzie Black

Lizzie Black. Wow, if you haven’t run across her work, let me introduce you to this dynamite artist from the village of Mousehole, Cornwall (UK). Her landscapes and garden studies are stunning. I love how she chose to spend time during the pandemic – she turned it into a very positive experience by creating such beauty in her paintings. Her garden studies are hopeful, gorgeous and a breath of fresh air! I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the beautiful work by this artist…

Starry, Starry Night…

After dinner on our way to bonfire…

The stars were the show at this magical get-together. The sky was a gorgeous deep blue and it was filled with so many stars it was hard to fathom. At home, we have other homes and trees around us, so we can only see little pieces of the sky/stars… so this was awe inspiring – and very, very hard to leave. Soon the chairs had wonderful, interesting people filling them and stories were shared.
