Oh! This view is a stunner every time we see it. Always changing but always spectacular. Bowens Island Restaurant is in a prime location in Charleston – the view from everywhere is breathtaking. It’s a little like being back in time and quite far from the hustle and bustle of everyday living – even though you aren’t far from it all.

Cone Flowers. They make quite a beautiful painting don’t they? I love the pinks and lavenders that Susan Graeber used in this painting – and those touches of dark – really make this painting pop! I like how this painting has an abstract quality to it – just fabulous!

Ken DeWaard. A fabulous artist who lives and paints in Maine. The way Ken captures a subject is so stunning. He’s got his own distinct style. Painting after painting of beautiful locations that resonate with so many of us definitely make him a favorite. Ken is as nice as they come, and let me tell you, if you ever have the opportunity to take a workshop with him… DO IT! You will learn so much AND have a good time (most of you know that those two are not always synonymous) – many times workshops are stressful, his you will actually learn, smile, laugh and be so happy with yourself when you leave. #winwin

It’s always nice to have a little salad of some sort, whether it be a simple side salad, or cucumbers in Greek yogurt/vinegar or a quick and easy coleslaw. Dinner is part way complete – toss something on the grill and call it a day! Ok, so you may have noticed that the bowl is quite empty… I took photos yesterday but they weren’t great. So… I will replace this at some point, but for now, this is two day old slaw, and it’s amazing!

Heavenly. Yes, it’s the perfect description of this Strawberry Summer Cake. I am not a fan of cake, but my husband is. The amount of sugar and fat that goes into a cake and then again into the frosting is more than I feel comfortable making unless it’s a rare occasion. This cake does not need frosting. A tiny bit of whipped cream or a small scoop of vanilla ice cream is at most all it needs!
